The privacy of a consumer’s personal information is important to Richmond Honda.  The purpose of this statement is to outline how we apply our Privacy Policy to information collected from a consumer. 

Personal information means any information about an individual except name, business title, business address, business email address, business telephone number or business facsimile number.  It also does not include an individual’s home address and telephone number if these are published in a telephone or other directory.

Use of a Consumer’s Personal Information 

A consumer’s personal information may be used by Richmond Honda to provide products and services to the consumer, obtain a credit report if the consumer is financing or leasing a vehicle, to arrange financing or leasing for the consumer, provide the consumer with reminders for the servicing of the vehicle, and to provide the consumer with updates and information regarding the vehicle, and other product offerings and services that we have to offer and which we think will interest the consumer.

What Personal Information do we Collect?

When a consumer purchases or leases a vehicle from Richmond Honda, or have us service or repair a vehicle, or finance or lease a vehicle from or through us, or purchase or lease other products or services from or through us, or participate in one of our surveys, contests, or promotions, or test drive one of our vehicles, or contact our dealership staff, we may collect some or all of the following personal information:

  • name, address and telephone number
  • e-mail address and facsimile number
  • occupation
  • information about the consumer’s driving habits (such as preferred car size, colour, type of vehicle, kilometers driven annually, etc).
  • information about the consumer’s existing vehicle(s) and any trade-in
  • details of the consumer’s vehicle and its service history
  • the consumer’s driver’s licence number
  • the name of the consumer’s insurance company and agent
  • the consumer’s insurance policy number and details about the consumer’s insurance coverage
    similar information about other members of the consumer’s family
    the consumer’s language preference
    the consumer’s date of birth and/or date of birth of other members of the consumer’s family
  • the consumer’s social insurance number and/or the social insurance number of other members of the consumer’s family
  • lien’s and/or accident declarations on the consumer’s vehicle
  • financial and credit information about the consumer and/or other members of the consumer’s family (specific information is set out in the application for credit forms)
  • the principle amount of the consumer’s loan, interest and payment schedule
  • health information if the consumer applies for life, health, disability or accident insurance
  • the amount of life, health, disability or accident insurance and details of that insurance

Provision of a consumer’s Social Insurance Number (SIN) is optional.  However, the consumer should be aware that most Credit Reporting Agencies use the SIN as a unique identifier to ensure proper identification when conducting credit reviews and preparing credit reports.  If a consumer does not wish to provide a SIN, our ability to obtain a timely and accurate credit report may be affected.

Security of Personal Information:
 
Richmond Honda takes reasonable steps to ensure that access to a consumer’s personal information is limited to those employees and service providers of Richmond Honda who need access to it to conduct our business.

Sharing of Personal Information

Richmond Honda will not sell a consumer’s personal information to third parties.

The personal information that Richmond Honda collects from consumers is necessary to offer and provide products or services to the consumer.  At times we must disclose the consumer’s personal information to third parties to provide these products or services.

We share some or all of a consumer’s personal information with third parties such as the manufacturer of the vehicle (generally limited to Honda Canada) and its related companies, the providers of products or services relating to the consumer’s vehicle, credit reporting agencies, financial institutions or financing companies, the consumer’s insurance agent, or companies that provide or insure warranties relating to the vehicle.

We may disclose the consumer’s personal information where we are required or permitted by law to do so. 

Retention of Personal Information

A consumer’s personal information is retained as long as we believe that the individual is still owner of the vehicle.  If the information relates to the financing or lease of the vehicle, we retain personal information relating to the financing or lease arrangements as long as the arrangements are in place.  If the information relates to the service or repair of the consumer’s vehicle we retain the personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to address any issues arising from the service or repair of the vehicle or may be required by law or the manufacturer.  If there are legal requirements relating to the period of time which we must retain the consumer’s personal information, we comply with those requirements.

Consumer Limitations and Rights

We will obtain consent from the consumer for the collection, use or disclosure of personal information.  The form of consent, including whether it is express or implied, or oral or written, may vary depending upon the circumstances and the type of information, including the sensitivity of the information and the reasonable expectation of the consumer.

If the consumer does not want us to use or disclose his or hers personal information in a particular way, the consumer may contact our Privacy Officer, as described above, and we will be pleased to discuss how we can limit the collection, use or disclosure of the consumer’s personal information.

A consumer has the right to access the personal information that we have collected and retained.  The consumer has the right to request that we correct any personal information that the consumer believes to be inaccurate.  A consumer who wishes access to his/her personal information may contact the Privacy Officer.
